Novated leases are a very attractive form of car financing, and one of the only ‘exotic’ loan structures available to those purchasing cars for personal use. The only problem is, they require the consent and intimate involvement of your employer! While applying for novated leasing as your form of Melbourne car finance isn’t as simple as getting a straight personal loan, it certainly is possible. Here are some very effective strategies for presenting your case for a novated lease to your employer.
Know the Benefits
Novated leasing is not just a favour your employer does you; it has benefits for them too. These include:
Removing the cost and administrative work of operating a company car fleet
Removing financial responsibility for the car
Ability to claim input tax credits for GST paid on lease payments)
Creating the ability to attract more valuable employees through a work perk which is difficult to get elsewhere.
Know the Lease Value to You
How much might you save with a novated lease for your car financing rather than a straightforward secured loan? If you feel you deserve that much of a pay rise, why not ask to have a novated car lease for your vehicle set up instead?
Pick Your Time
Your employer may have a heightened awareness of the benefits of novated leasing to THEM if you plan to negotiate:
After several employees have left
After several company cars have been sold
After the end of a financial year, when they are re-thinking tax strategies
Be Bold!
Your employer probably doesn’t want to lose you, and therefore should be happy to give you a little leeway for your continued commitment to them. Know your value … and be bold!

MLM’s (Multi Level Marketing Companies) in the past have done some really horrible things to their members. I remember being asked to join one where you had to buy over $100 US of product every month on top of the big joining fee. Now at the time I was in Australia so doing the conversion it was like being asked to spend $160 per month on only the stuff that could be shipped to Australia – so it was a very limited selection of American food, clothes and other bits and pieces.
Of course the electronics or DVD’s etc would not work (wrong power and wrong format on the DVD’s). The people that asked me to join were friends and they were very serious about it. I just couldn’t see how it would grow and sure enough it failed.
Other MLM’s have made you attend “rah rah” meeting each week. Yes I have spare time to do that and to market my business… and to have a life. Not! So what are some tips for picking a smart MLM today? These days we have the Internet and it is the most powerful tool to market your business – bricks and mortar, online store or MLM, so you want to get into a business that has good Internet reach.
